Udupi: RTI Activist T J Abraham has submitted an application to Syndicate Bank Deputy General Manager S S Hegde to provide documents related to alleged Rs 193 crore loan – personal and business – sanctioned to Youth Service and Sports Minister Pramod Madhwaraj against a collateral of just Rs 1.1 crore.

Speaking to media persons, Abraham expressed surprise regarding the clarification of bank heads that loan was sanctioned to Pramod Madhwaraj according to the rules, and there was no breach of law in any way.

“The bank has given a loan of Rs.34.50 crore, twice for the 3 acres 8 cents of land in Uppoor village. This means that the bank has given valued the land located in the outskirts of Udupi much more than the value of land in M G Road of Bengaluru. This shows blatant irregularity,” he said.

“If the Syndicate Bank didn’t conduct any irregularity, let them give all the documents given by the District-in-Charge Minister while taking the loan. If they try to escape with baseless reasons and depict me as a liar, I will file a defamation case worth Rs. 5 crore against them,” he warned.

“Not only is there irregularity in the loan sanctioned, there are illegalities in Madhwaraj’s petrol bunk in Malpe, fish mill, multi-storeyed building in Manipal too. I will fetch out and provide details of same one-by-one,” he said.
