RPI will contest for Udupi Assembly seat: Mohan Raj

Udupi: Throwing the hat in the ring, the Republican Party of India (RPI) has announced that it too would contest for the Udupi Legislative Assembly seat with its candidate Shekar Havanje in the first list.

Speaking to media at the Udupi Press Club on April 2, R Mohan Raj, State President of RPI (Prakash Ambedkar’s group) said that under the leadership of Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar’s grandson Prakash Y Ambedkar, the Republic Party of India would contest for 20 seats in the forthcoming Karnataka Legislative Assembly elections.

Speaking about the party’s work, Raj said that the party founded by Dr. B R Ambedkar in 1956, was formed to keep the constitution alive. “Since four years the party has been working to save the constitution which is in danger. The Congress, BJP and Janata Dal (Secular) parties have failed to protect the constitution and are working against it”, said Raj.

In order to safeguard the constitution, the RPI held a meeting and released a list of 10 candidates to contest in the various constituencies in the upcoming legislative assembly elections. Raj called for the support of those who wanted to protect the constitution and work for the students, the neglected, women and for the rights of all sections of people.

Raj said that the party Chief Prakash Ambedkar had finalised the list of 10 contestants for the Karnataka Assembly elections in the first round. They are Ankush Gokale from Humanabad, Shekar Havanje from Udupi, Parasuram Neelanayaka from Bagalkote, Shastri Hasamani from Babaleshwar, Muktum Shah Ali Nadaf from Vijayanagar, S Shivalingam from KGF (ST) of Kolar District, R Mohanraj from C V Raman Nagar (ST), J K Gopal from H D Kote (ST) from Mysore, H B Devaraj from Periyapattana of Mysure District and Heerappa M Kasan from Yadgiri.

The RPI will tie up with the CPI, CPI (M), Aam Admi Party and Welfare Party of India to contest in the elections.

Shekar Havanje, RPI Udupi Assembly candidate, Vittal Havanje, Abubakkar K, Damayanthi, Manoj and others were present during the press meet.
