Retired DySP, CM’s medal winner dies in road mishap

Udupi: A retired DySP was killed after he was hit by the car here near Mahesh hospital in Brahmavar on Monday June 1 .
Retired deputy superintendent of police (DySP) Beltangady Jaya Bhandary (66) is the deceased. The incident took place when the DySP was about to cross the road along with his friend Rama Bhandary near Mahesh hospital, and a speeding WagonR hit him.

He was taken in a serious condition to KMC, Manipal, but in vain.

B J Bhandary who hails from Belthangady Taluk joined the police department in 1979. Bhandary has served as ACP in Mangalore apart from serving in Mandya, Bangalore, Chickmangalur, DCRE, CCB, State Intelligence and Lokayukta department.

He is the recipient of Chief Minister’s medal twice in 1991 and 2007. Now, his services are recognized once again by selecting him for the President’s medal.

Soon after the mishap Car driver Abdul Rahim was taken to custody. A case has been registered in the Brahmavar police station.
