Udupi: A resident student has committed suicide in his hostel and another has gone missing from Kotady Boy’s Hostel in Hanehalli village near Brahmavar on Thursday, February 7.

The deceased student is identified as Mallesha (17) from Adavibhavi village in Gangavati taluk of Koppala district and the missing student is Mahesh (17) from Bijapur district.

According to sources, Mahesh and Mallesha had planned to escape from the hostel on Thursday morning. Mallesha asked the permission of the hostel authorities to go out so that he can buy some medicine for his infected feet. However, the hostel warden did not allow him to go alone and asked a fellow student to accompany him. Meanwhile, Mahesh silently escaped from the hostel.

Mallesha committed suicide by hanging from a tree near the hostel in the evening. The incident came to light when his teachers and hostel authorities started searching for him after he failed to attend the night’s special class. While searching for Mallesha, hostel authorities found his body hanging from a tree. The reason for his suicide is not known.

Both Mallesha and Mahesh were pursuing 10th standard at Korady school.

Brahmavar Police have registered a case and investigations are on.
