Udupi: Amrith Shenoy P, a rebel Congress leader, filed his nomination papers as an independent candidate from the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha Constituency on Tuesday, March 26.
The Chief Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner of Udupi district Hephsiba Rani Korlapati received the nomination papers from Amrith.
Amrith was accompanied by Yagnesh Acharya, Dr. P V Bhandary, Allen Rohan Vaz, Brahmavar and Anitha D’Souza.
Amrith Shenoy said that Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency seat given to the JD(S) and fielding of candidates from Congress to JD(S) was not right. “I opposed the AICC high command’s move and decided to contest as an independent candidate. I have not yet resigned from the Congress party, and will come up with a decision soon,” he added.
