Udupi: The state-level Kannada Rajyotsava awards will be presented by the end of November, said Dr. Jayamala, Kannada and Culture Minister and District In-charge minister.

Speaking to media persons at Udupi on Wednesday, November 21, Dr. Jayamala said that the selection for the awards was already completed. Usually, these awards are presented on the Kannada Rajyotsava day on November 1, but due to the election code of conduct it could not be done this year, she said.

She informed that the chief minister had convened a meeting on November 29 regarding the awards.

When questioned about the absence of factory owners during the meeting of sugarcane farmers on the issue of minimum support price for the crop, she denied having knowledge of the same. “Farmers are like God for us and the government. God is our life and belief. It would be wrong to think that our government as anti-farmers. Our support to the farmers is always there,” she said.

On the controversy that has arisen following insulting remarks by the chief minister against a woman farmer, Dr. Jayamala said that H D Kumaraswamy did not intend to disrespect the woman whatsoever. “He did not say anything wrong to the woman farmer. It is media which has misinterpreted the chief minister’s statement, that’s it.”
