Udupi: After the Bharatiya Janata Party Raitha Morcha protested at Bantwal and Karkala, simultaneous agitation was organised by the Morcha’s Udupi unit  condemning the irregular power supply and load-shedding by Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (Mescom) on Monday August 4.

Protesters demanded uninterrupted power supply, enough power for  agricultural pump sets, new transformers and re-cabling at damaged areas as well as installation of solar power system.

Addressing the protestors, Kota Srinivas Poojary, MLC, said when the BJP was in power, electricity generation had increased by  1,425 MW.Though it was over a year since the Congress government came to power, it had failed to fulfil the electrical needs of the state, he alleged.

Udaykumar Shetty, BJP leader, said that minimum 12 hours of power should be provided in all three phases so that farmers were not affected. If state government fails to do so the Minister of Power must resign, he added.

The protesters submitted a memorandum to Bharati, Assistant Executive Engineer, Mescom.  Devdas Hebbar, Vilas Nayak,  Shyamala Kunder and others were present on the occasion.
