Udupi: The Rashtriya Heddari Jagrathi Samithi members and villagers held a protest at Sasthan Toll Plaza against the toll charges by Navayuga Company here on, Monday, November 26.
The Navayuga Construction Company began collecting the toll fee from November 26, which the local villagers, as well as Rashtriya Heddari Jagarathi Samithi, are objecting.
They are protesting against the “unscientific” construction of NH 66 road and neglect of essential service roads, flyover, pedestrian over bridge and underpass.
The protestors also said that contractor of Navayuga Company was collecting toll charges without any of this facility.
The protesters said that the four-way road was constructed in order to reduce the accidents on the highway. But the accidents occurred every now and then due to unscientific construction.
They urged to atleast exempt the local vehicles from the toll fee.
The protesters raised slogans against the Navayug Company.
They demanded exemption of the toll on KA – 20 vehicles at Sasthan toll plaza with immediate effect.
The protesters attempted to block the national highway in the process.
More than 200 policemen gathered on the NH 66 Sasthan Toll plaza along with Additional Superintendent of Police Kumar Chandra, DySP Jai Shanker and Udupi Taluk Tahasildar Pradeep Kurdekar to control the mob.
The protesters were detained after they tried to block the road.
