Udupi: The Udupi police arrested the prime accused in the brutal murder of Guruprasad, who was hacked to death within the recreation club run by him at 7th Heaven Hotel building on Manipal – Perampally Road.
Ranjith Pinto (37) from Kolalgiri was arrested from Uppoor Kolalgiri in the wee hours of Monday. His arrest, the fourth in the case came hours after three others – Sujith Pinto (35), Pradeep Poojary (36) and Rajesh Poojary (30) were arrested on Sunday evening from near Kandlur check post. All the four accused were produced before the court, on Monday evening, which remanded them to three days police custody.
Ranjith and Sujith happen to be brothers and have several cases registered against them at various stations here. The police, it is gathered had sought to invoke Goonda Act against the two considering their criminal record but the same was rejected in the court.
Guruprasad, who was murdered on Sunday, July 29 is believed to have had financial dealings with Ranjith. A dispute arose between the two over the financial matter on Saturday night angering Ranjith, who later barged into the club with his brother and two others and brutally murdered Guruprasad.
Meanwhile, District superintendent of police, Laxman Nimbargi, said that further investigations will throw light on whether any other person, except for those arrested were involved in this incident.
