Precautionary measures taken to conduct smooth, fair LS polls: Nisha James

Udupi: The district police will be taking a bond from 1,660 rowdy sheeters and intimidators. So far, bonds have already been taken from 1,112 such persons in the district, said Nisha James, IPS, District Superintendent of Police.

Speaking to media persons at the DC’s office on Tuesday, March 26, Nisha James said that 255 of the 1,111 polling booths, are very sensitive and 856 are common. Out of the 255 very sensitive polling booths, 55 are Naxal-affected polling booths, she said.

She also said that cases have been registered against 1,401 out of 1,738 rowdy sheeters, eight have been debarred from the district and two are yet to be debarred.

For the elections, the district police have asked for five CRPF units of 100 personnel each. Voting awareness is also being undertaken in the district.

Deputy Commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati and ADC Vidyakumari were present.
