Pramodh Madhwaraj inaugurates houses built for migrant workers

Udupi: District in-charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj inaugurated 29 new RCC houses meant for migrant workers in a new layout named ‘hosa belaku, hosa baduku’ in Kodandoor ward of Udupi CMC, on Sunday.

In his inaugural address, Pramod Madhwaraj said that the migrant workers living in the region over the last two decades can now have a sigh of relief as they have received houses for themselves.

He lauded the Udupi CMC and Rajeev Gandhi Grameena Vasathi Nigam for making the project a reality and urged the beneficiaries to keep the houses in good condition.

“Now the migrant workers must concentrate on educating their children and empowering their lives, ” he said.

Pramod Madhwaraj directed deputy commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis to make provisions to provide BPL and Adhaar Card for the residents.

Meanwhile, Priyanka Mary Francis said that Anganawadi should be started at the earliest for children residing here in the colony. She pointed that the families of the migrant workers do not have ration cards and other identity cards and steps will be taken to extend these facilities to them.

The new layout has land area of 55 cents, which has been purchased from a private individual. The houses built in two or three cents each have two rooms and attached bathroom and toilet facility. Roads will be laid soon, while other facilities like street lights,drainage, water lines etc will be installed soon.

Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje, CMC President, Manjunathaiah Municipal Commissioner, Sadhya Tilakraj Vice President of CMC, Shobha Kakkunje President of CMC standing Committee, Janaki Ganapti Shettigar Kadankoor ward councilor, Janardhan Tonse member of Zilla Panchayat, Yuvaraj former CMC President, Narayan Kundar, Shantaram Salvankar, Janardhan Bhandarkar and other CMC officials were present. Community leaders Ramayya, Lakshman Kari, Mariswami Gadag and others were present.
