Udupi: Pramod Madhvaraj, former minister and JD(S) candidate from the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, officially resigned from the JD(S) party on Tuesday, September 3.
In a letter to the president of the JDS state unit, H K Kumaraswamy, Madhwaraj said that during the Lok Sabha elections, he was looking forward to contesting as a candidate of the Congress party. However, as the Congress and JD(S) parties became allies ahead of the election, seeing that they were partners in the coalition government, the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency was given to the latter. He contested in the election on the JD(S) ticket as the party had no candidate of their own.
“Since the Congress and JD(S) are no longer allied, I will resign from the party,” he said.
