Udupi: Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister for Fisheries, Sports and Youth Empowerment laid the foundation stone for the new market yard in Santhekatte, Kallianpur of the Gopalpura Ward of Udupi CMC here on February 7.
“The new market at the cost of Rs 1 Crore will be established within one month which is a long pending demand of the people. Every Sunday, the weekly market functioning next to National Highway 66 is congested. The new market will solve traffic problems at Santhekatte junction”, said Pramod Madhwaraj.
A vast parking yard around the new market area will be built. Around 1.05 acre of land has been devoted to the new market place. The work will be held at the earliest and the new market will be active after a month, he added.
Pramod Madhwaraj also inaugurated the new Municipal IDSMT Commercial Complex at the Santhekatte junction on Kallianpur road. The new commercial building consisting of three floors has been built at a cost of Rs 151.60 Crore.
According to the sources, another sophisticated commercial building will be established at the old market place in Santhekatte in future.
Udupi CMC President Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje, Gopalapura Ward Councilor Chandrakanth Naik, CMC Commissioner Manjunathaiah, municipal officials and others were present.
