Udupi: The first “Saviruchi Sanchari Canteen” in the district was launched by District In-charge Minister Pramod Madhwaraj at the DC Office complex premises at Manipal on March 24.
After the launch, Pramod Madhwaraj said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in his budget, had announced the launch of Saviruchi Canteens all over the state under Sthree Shakti Okkootas. In every district, Sthree Shakthi Women Federations have been formed to run these canteens. To run the Saviruchi Canteens, each federation will be given a loan of Rs 10 Lakh without any interest by the Karnataka State Women’s Development Corporation. The loan can be paid back in 66 installments over 67 months at an EMI of Rs 15,000.
In Udupi, Chaitanya District Stree Shakthi Okkoota will run the Saviruchi Mobile Canteen.
Umashree of Chaithanya Zilla Sthree Shakthi Okkoota said that breakfast and meals would be available in the canteen. Customers can also buy tea, coffee, snacks and fruit juice. The mobile canteen will be available at Brahmavar, Udupi, Manipal and other major centres in Udupi district. She also added that snacks and meals would be available at reasonable rates.
Dinakar Babu, ZP President, Sheela K Shetty, ZP Vice President, Nalini Pradeep Rao, President of Udupi Taluk Panchayat, Gracy Gonsalves, Deputy Director of Women and Child Development and other officials were present.
