Udupi: Birthday wishes for everyone to see, has become something of a trend. Annoying as it may sometimes be, there is certainly nothing wrong with it. If you want to wish someone who is a controversial personality, you might want to consider wishing them discreetly.
Uneasiness grew in the small city of Udupi when a poster appeared out of the blue at the Bannanje Circle, close to the District office in Udupi, displaying birthday wishes for the notorious gangster Bannanje Raja.
As stated on the poster, it was was hoisted by the Bannanje Raja Abhimanigala Balaga on his birthday, December 15 (according to the poster), which was later taken down by authorities.
The poster, hung from a pole at the Bannanje Circle, praised Bannanje Raja for being a “social worker, protector of the poor and beloved leader.” The poster also announced the organisation’s intention to distribute fruits and blankets at the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital at 11.30 am to celebrate the occasion. The only known Sanjay Gandhi Hospitals are in Benagluru and Delhi. It is assumed that the poster is referring to the hospital in Bengaluru.
The poster was taken down after photos and videos of the poster went viral on the internet, and the police are now looking into the matter.
The fact that the poster was put up at a major intersection in the city is what has taken people surprise.
The gangster, Bannanje Raja, is currently in a jail in Belagavi after he was extradited from Morocco in 2015.
