Udupi: The Brahmavar Police arrested two suspected car thieves and confiscated five cars which were reportedly stolen by them. The total value of cars recovered is estimated to be about Rs 39 lakhs.
According to a statement released by the police, the suspects would express interest in buying cars on lease and those on sale on OLX. They would offer a token advance and prepare an agreement and then take the vehicles to a distant place, convince the unsuspecting buyers that they are the real owners of the vehicles and then sell the vehicles.
Sunil (31), a resident of Hosuru village near Brahmavar complained to the Brahmavar police and registered a case against suspects Ibrahim from Mangaluru, Abdulla a resident of Padpu, Bajal, Mangaluru, who presently stays in a rented house in Thokkottu and Mohamed Safan (22), a resident of Vittal in Bantwal Taluk of the Dakshina Kannada district.
Abdulla (33), the second suspected vehicle thief, is also a suspect in attempt to murder cases registered in the Bellare and Bajpe police stations.
The police confiscated a Scorpio worth Rs 5 lakhs, a Mahindra XUV500 worth Rs 15 lakhs, an I-20 worth Rs 4 lakhs, a Mahindra RUV worth Rs 7 lakhs and a Brezza worth about Rs 8 lakhs.
