Udupi: Politicians in India often offer special prayers and offerings to the Gods and local deities, in order to have the mandate favouring their political party.

During the 2018 Assembly election, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) District President, Mattaru Ratnakar Shetty, was determined to offer a ‘Kola’ (a folk ritual offered to local deities) to ‘Babbu Swami’, if the BJP wins the election in all five constituencies. Now that his prayers have paid off, he has organized a ‘Kola’ which began on Friday, February 1, and will continue till Saturday, February 2.

Meanwhile, some of the fans of Prime Minister Narendra Modi have offered prayers to Lord Krishna in Udupi Sri Krishna Temple, and also expressed their devotion by pulling a chariot of the diety.

Modi fans offered the prayer and pulled the chariot, to seek God’s grace in ensuring that PM Modi led NDA government will win the upcoming 2019 Lok Sabha election yet again.

Around 6000 people were served ‘Prasadam’ in during the ‘Kola’.

According to the organizers Rs 14 to 15 lakh have been spent on ‘Kola’ rituals, and the chariot pulling costed around Rs 20000.
