Paws and Claws on Sunday: Karavali Canine Club organizes Dog Show

Udupi: The people of Udupi saw a variety of dogs, lined up at the Karavali Canine Club’s 2nd Open Show and Bangalore Canine Club’s 32nd and 33rd All Breeds Championship Dog Show held here in the city on February 2.

Sri Lakshmivara Theertha Swamiji, Shirur Mutt, blessed the function, while Pramod Madhwaraj, local MLA inaugurated the event. It was an opportunity for the canine lovers to enjoy the show, around 150 dogs from over 25 breeds participated in the show.  There were dogs from across the state.

Addressing the gathering Madhwaraj said that loyalty of dogs cannot be compared with any species in the world. Dog is one of the most important part of a human’s life, he added.

The event started at 10am on Sunday all three shows were be held at the MGM College ground, Udupi. Judges for these shows were judged by K. K. Trivedi, Dr. Mathew C and Yogesh Tuteja.

Judging was done on the basis of conformation; the dogs were scrutinized on the basis of appearance to and to be the closest to the breed standard.

In a bid to encourage ‘Breed in India’ dogs, there was a special prize for the Best in show Breed in India,

The show also witnessed junior handling competition wherein child handlers exhibited their handling skills and won the best Junior Handler’s prize.

Later, the prize distribution ceremony was held during which Annamalai K. S. P. of Udupi District, Shobha Karandlaje, MP, Yashpal Suvarna, President of Fisheries Federation Udupi & DK were present.

Along with Vishwanath Kamath, present during the press meet were Kiran Kumar, Vice President of Karavali Canine Club and Nishith R. K. Rao Treasure of the club.
