Udupi: “Our intention is to win with the highest margin and the youth are working honesty like soldiers for the Bharatiya Janata Party to make Narendra Modi, the prime minister of India once again, said incumbent MP Shobha Karandlaje at a press meet here on Friday, March 22.

She was addressing a press meet at the BJP office in Kadiyali after filing her nomination papers at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Manipal. She thanked the national and state BJP leaders for once again giving her the opportunity to work with Narendra Modi. “I have done a lot of good work in the last five years for the Udupi–Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha Constituency and brought in several schemes of the union government. There are more programmes like the improvement of tourism and schemes for coffee, arecanut growers that are yet to come,” she said.

She said that she filed her nomination on March 22 since she believed that Friday is a good day. “I will file my nomination again on March 26 along with Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who will be visiting Udupi on March 25. On March 26, she will visit the Sri Krishna Matt and later she will address a public meeting at the Chittaranjan Circle. She will also meet the deputy commissioner and have an interaction with the fishermen at Malpe. Later, she will conduct a press meet,” Shobha informed.

Speaking about the accomplishments of the central government, she claimed that all the promises made before the 2014 elections had been fulfilled and that the various achievements of the NDA will help it succeed once again.

Taking a shot at the Karnataka state government, Shobha said that since the coalition government was formed in the state, there have been several instances of infighting over various issues. “The coalition government is not interested in the development of the state. They are busy trying to figure out how to make the coalition survive. There has been a severe drought in the state and now nearly 170 districts are facing an acute shortage of drinking water. But the state is not doing anything or showing any interest to solve the people’s problem,” she said.

She then termed the ‘Mahagathbandhan’ a “huge failure.”

Regarding the NOTA campaign by the dissident BJP workers, she blamed the Congress party workers. “They have no confidence of winning the Udupi–Chickmagaluru Lok Sabha Constituency and are playing these tricks. We will not be the victims of anyone’s conspiracy,” she asserted.

With regard to Pramod Madhwaraj contesting on the JDS ticket, she said that there are no restrictions on contesting in a democratic system and that it was his personal decision.

Mattar Rathnakar Hegde, District BJP President, Prabhakar Poojary, City BJP President, Bharathi Shetty, President of BJP Mahila Morcha, Chikkamagaluru, Jeevaraj, District President of Chikkamagaluru, Lalaji Mendon, Kulaidy Suresh Nayak and others were present.
