No compensation for houses damaged in stone explosion project: ISPRL

Udupi: The contracting company, ISPRL has given a written reply saying that they would not be giving compensation to the owners of around 150 houses at Padur that have been damaged in the stone explosion work, said Udupi Tahsildar Pradeep Kurdekar.

He was responding to Sandeep Rao, President of Majoor Gram Panchayat during the Udupi Taluk Panchayat general meeting on Wednesday, September 12, held at the Udupi Taluk office here. Nalini Pradeep Rao presided over this meeting.

Sandeep Rao said that despite the Tahsildar’s report to the government and the Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserve Limited (ISPRL) regarding the damage to the houses due to stone explosion work being carried out, neither the government nor the contracting company had given them any compensation. He also informed that the local MLA and people held a meeting with the DC informing them that a letter was written to the contracting company’s managing director with regard to the compensation.

During the meeting, the use of the fees collected in relation to the ration cards was discussed, and a complaint regarding the payment of taxes to the gram panchayat by the small and large scale industries was addressed.

Shashiprabha Shetty, a member complained that water was not moving beyond Gurme of Kuthyar gram panchayat limits due to debris from broken trees and demanded that the problem be solved at the earliest.

In response to a statement made by Geetha Wagle about constructing temporary shelters for the fisher-women selling fish, Udupi Taluk EO Mohanraj said that a letter should be written to the Fishing department in this regard.

Dr. Sunitha Shetty, Michael Ramesh D’Souza and other members were present.
