Udupi: Police received the post-mortem report of the Shiroor Matt pontiff Laxmivaratheertha Swami on Monday, July 30. However, the report did not mention the exact cause of death.
The post-mortem examination was conducted at Manipal’s KMC Hospital following the death of the pontiff at the same hospital on July 19. Doctors collected the samples from Swamiji’s body and sent them to the regional forensic science laboratory at Mangaluru.
On Monday, the office of the Superintendent of Police Laxman Nibbargi received the post-mortem report from KMC Hospital. In the report, the doctors who conducted the examination have said that they would give a conclusive cause of death only after matching the present report with that from the Forensic Science Laboratory, Mangaluru.
Without any conclusive leads into the exact cause of death, the police will have to wait until the forensic laboratory reveals its findings. On an average, the forensic science laboratory takes at least a month’s time to prepare its report.
Meanwhile, the Shiroor Moola Matt at Hiriyadka and the premises of Udupi town will remain under police control. Sources said this arrangement will continue till the investigations are completed. On Monday, the police also collected the personal effects of the pontiff during the time of his passing preserved at the hospital for further examination.
