Kundapur: At long last, Kundapura has finally received its very own Indira Canteen. The canteen at Shastri Circle was inaugurated on Wednesday, November 21, by district in-charge minister Dr Jayamala. The inauguration of this canteen that was set up at a cost of Rs 72 lakhs, was delayed owing to the election code of conduct that was in force during the recently held by-polls.
Speaking to reporters about the facility, Dr Jayamala said that 1.40 lakh people have been benefited by Indira Canteens. “The Udupi district has four of these canteens and their success has led us to come with mobile canteens that will especially be for visitors of patients,” she said, adding that the district Deputy Commissioner would start ‘Ganji Oota’ based on public opinion.
At present, the canteen can feed up to 300 people in a single day. Changes in the capacity will be made depending on public demand.
MLC R Pratapchandra Shetty, DC Priyanka Mary Francis, T Bhoobalan, Kiran Padnekar, municipal council members, taluk panchayat members and elected representatives were present at the inauguration.
