Udupi: Members of National Students Union of India (NSUI) staged a protest here at Clock Tower on August 11 demanding a thorough probe into the death of Kavya, a student of Alvas institution at Moodabidri.
Speaking during the protest Mangalore University Senate member Amrith Shenoy questioned the silence maintained by Udupi-Chikkamagluru MP Shobha Karandlaje who was very vociferous during the untoward incidents that occurred in Bantwal.
“Despite being a woman, Shobha Karandlaje has neither given any response nor consoled Kavya’s family. We strongly condemn her attitude,” said Shenoy asking where the leader was now.
Further he added that they do not have any enmity with either Alva’s institution or with Dr. Mohan Alva. However since the death of Kavya at the institution campus remains shrouded with mystery and a thorough investigation should be conducted into the same. Such untoward incidents should not occur in any institutions.
“Pressurizing students may disrupt their lives, hence there should be certain rules and regulations for the educational institutions no matter how large or small they are. Some schools are not following proper regulations. Government should take severe strict measures against those who violate the rules of the institution,” he said.
Prinsceley Lewis, student leader also spoke.NSUI district President Christen Almeida, Marsh Sequeira, Prajwal Kundar, Kalvin D’ Silva, Nabil Udyavara, Janardhan Bhaandarkar and others were present.
