Udupi: People of coastal region are very courageous, intelligent and enterprising. The youth of this region should join the police forces in large numbers so that the police department can achieve greater heights said KSRP ADGP Bhaskar Rao.

He was speaking in an informative workshop on career opportunities in the police department for the youth of the coastal area, organised jointly by KSRP, Coast Guards and the Police Department in Mogaveera Sabhangana in Eluru, Malpe on Thursday June 27.

“In the last four to five years, the job seekers from the coastal areas of the district were not showing interest in joining the police forces. This has led to the appointment of people from other district to the police force in Udupi. Law and order is a local subject and when local people are involved it is easy to handle it. When people from outside the district are appointed, they need to learn the culture of the area for which they may take several years. By the time they learn everything they get transferred to their home town leaving the post vacant again leading to law and order problems, ” said Bhaskar Rao.

The Police Department in the coastal areas has about 1624 constable posts and 110 sub inspector posts are lying vacant.

The appointments to the police force is a very transparent affair without political pressure, recommendations, bribe or mediators being involved. Legal action is underway on those people who were acting as mediators including staff of the police department, said Bhaskar Rao trying to motivate the participants to join the police force.

The work pressure in the police department was less compared to earlier days as white collar crimes have increased recently which needs smart work. The remuneration is good in the police department which is set to increase after implementing Ouradkar commission recommendations. The family of the police department employee would be covered under free health insurance and canteen facility and quarters facility will be provided. Apart from this, police department provides an opportunity to individuals to serve people and the country.

Udupi SP Nisha James presided over the function. Addressing the gathering she said that there were very few local applicants in the police selection camp held in Udupi last month. More camps and workshops regarding appointments in police department would be conducted, said the SP.

Hassana KSRP Commandent Krishnappa , Mangaluru KSRP Commandent Janardhan, Udupi ASP Kumara Chandra, Fisheries Federation President Yashpal Suvarna, Fisheries department deputy director Parshwanath and Malpe Fishermen Association president Sathish Kunder were present at the program.

Pramod Kumar, Coast Guard Inspector welcomed the gathering, Jaishankar Udupi DYSP proposed the vote of thanks and AY Mohan of Coast Guards compered the program.
