Udupi: The recent case of the Railway Police seizing Rs 1.65 cr from Indrali Railway Station, in Udupi has not got any connection to illegal activities.

During the process of interrogation by the IT officials, it is understood that the cash was earned through the sale of gold bars in districts like Belagavi and Hubballi.

The transactions are associated with a person named Jaswant Singh from Rajasthan who resides in Kannur, Kerala, who is undergoing IT scanner now. His business partner is said to have handed over the money from the sale of gold bars from the said districts to him.

Persons identified as Ganesh and Prakash had taken the money from Jaswant’s business partner and were on the way to Kannur to hand it over to Jaswant Singh.

The cash was first transported from Belagavi to Kumta by car and then Ganesh took the cash by train from Kumta. He then met Prakash at Bhatkal.

The ticket collector grew suspicious looking at the bag and informed the SI of RPF Santhosh Gaonkar who seized the cash and nabbed two.

Initially, it was suspected that the money was being transported due to by-polls in the state.
