Udupi: The Vegetables Farmers’ Sauharda Society, Benegal, Kukkehalli, NABARD and the School of Management, Manipal have initiated the mobile sale of fresh vegetables in various places in Udupi and Manipal.
Addressing the media at the Udupi Press Club here on Wednesday, December 27, Raghavendra Bhat said that selling fresh vegetables has been difficult due to the presence of middlemen in the market.
“The sale of fresh vegetables in mobile vans can fetch the appropriate rate for the vegetables for the farmers who produced the vegetables. The farmers Sauharda members will initiate the sale of the fresh vegetables directly to the consumers, at certain places in Manipal and Udupi,” he added.
The mobile vegetable market will be inaugurated by Pramod Madhwaraj, District in-charge Minister on December 29 at Tiger Circle, Manipal. Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje, Mahesh Takur, Devendra Prabhu, Sukesh Kunder, Tallur Shivaram Shetty, Dr. Ravindranath Nayak, Ramesh and others will be present at the inauguration.
Initially, there will only be one mobile van in operation but, soon more vans will be introduced. The mobile van will operate from 8 am to 7.30 pm. Customers will be informed about the mobile van via social media platforms.
