Udupi: Top level medical care should be provided for the poor people with better facilities and satisfied care, said Sri Vishwesha Thirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Matt.
After inauguration of Kusamma Shambhu Shetty Memorial and Haji Abdulla Mother and Child Hospital dedication programme on January 18 at Vajpayee Auditorium, Rajathadri, Manipal near here, the Pejawar Swamiji said that earlier there was severe opposition from various communities for the establishment of this hospital on the land provided by Haji Abdulla for mother and child government hospital adding that a lot of pressure was exerted by the public against the construction. “We need the government hospital with the collaboration of Dr. B R Shetty at Udupi for the poor people who cannot afford to pay the bills. Now we have got such hospital with the intention to provide all necessary facilities with high standard for the poor people of Udupi district”, he added.
Swamiji said that obviously the doctors should not take the medical fee from the poor patients. “The doctors should take high fee from very rich people and that amount should be used for the poor patients. The service of the doctors for the poor will be increased in the future. The hospital management with the service initiatives should provide better services free of cost for the poor patients of Mother and Children Hospital”, he added.
In his keynote address, Dr. B R Shetty, Managing Director of BRS Venture said, “We have high standard international level hospital established in Udupi with the intention to provide better medical facilities and care for the poor people free of cost. Siddaramaiah, the chief minister of Karnataka believed me and Ramesh Kumar, Minister of State for Health also helped me to establish a better hospital in the name of my parents in Udupi. The chief minister, health minister and District In-charge Minister Pramod Madhwaraj totally trusted me on this venture. It is not with the intention to make business, but it is a project with the intention of giving free medical care for the poor people. I was the municipal councillor during the early ages in Udupi Town Council. It is a good opportunity for the people of Udupi to have good medical care with international standards.”
Speaking on the occasion, Pramod Madhwaraj said, “During November 2017, Siddaramaiah inaugurated the hospital on the premise of Haji Abdulla Maternity and Child Hospital. There were 70 beds in the Government Maternity and Child Hospital. I appreciate the doctors and medical faculty for their excellent services in the hospital at Udupi. From tomorrow onwards free medical care with high facilities will be available for the poor people of Udupi district with 200 beds. Our dream has come true to establish international level free hospital with 200 beds.”
Speaking on the occasion, chief guest J P Nadda, Union Minister for Health and Family Empowerment who dedicated the hospital to the public, said that it was a good initiative on the part of the state government to establish highly advanced government hospital in partnership with a private entrepreneur from overseas. “I must congratulate the state government and Dr. B R Shetty for the initiative with the intention to provide better medical care and facilities free of cost to the poorest of the poor. This initiative should be an inspiration to other players of the medical institutions,” he added.
The programme was organised by the District Administration, Health, Family Empowerment and Research Department and BRS Venture and Research Centre, Bengaluru.
