Karkala: Enraged with the fact that their persistent pleas have fallen on deaf ears, the residents of Kantavara-Baradi here have decided to boycott the upcoming Zilla and Taluk Panchayat elections.

The Chilimbi-Nitte Parappadi road adjoining the Mangaluru-Solapur highway falls under the purview of Udupi Zilla Panchayat. The next 4km stretch from Chilimbi to Baradi comes under Miyyar Zilla Panchayat. The succeeding Nitte-Parappadi 3km stretch is under Nitte Zilla Panchayat. These roads are completely marred by potholes.

Lack of drainage system has only worsened the situation. Since the area is not well connected with bus services, the locals are posed to grave inconvenience, especially with the fall of dusk.

Seeking solution to all these issues, numerous pleas were submitted by the locals to the politicians and officials, but those please have remained unattended.

Hence the locals decided to boycott the election and installed banners in this regard all over Kantavar gram panchayat. The locals have now been alleging that the banners have been removed by the panchayat.
