Mayur Shetty wins “Falling Walls” Lab contest

Manipal: Mayur Shetty of Blackfrog Technologies Pvt. Ltd. Udupi emerged victorious in the Falling Walls Lab competition organized by Kasturba Medical College, Manipal here on saturday. He won the first position for “Breaking the Wall of Ice-Box for cold chain management”.

Dr H.S. Ballal, Pro-Chancellor – Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Dr Vinod Bhat, Vice Chancellor – MAHE and Margit Hellwig-Boette, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany (Bengaluru) and others were present on the occasion.

That win makes Mayur eligible to compete with Falling Walls Lab winners from across the world at the global Lab finale in Berlin, Germany on November 8, 2019. He also gets a ticket to the prestigious Falling Walls Conference on November 9 where leaders from science, industry and policy-making meet.

The trip to Berlin is financed by the German Centre for Research and Innovation (DWIH) New Delhi. The second and third winners were Navjot Kaur from Indian institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and Nitish Singh from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur who pitched in with the themes ‘Breaking the wall of access to expensive molecular diagnosis’ and ‘Breaking the wall of paper’ respectively. Nitish Singh also bagged the Audience Choice award.

DAAD and DWIH announced yet another award on this occasion for young talents in the context of entrepreneurship. Sidharth Ramesh from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal is the proud recipient of this for the presentation on ‘‘Breaking the wall of medical data’ and will get the opportunity to participate in a 5-day entrepreneurship boot camp in Germany.

Falling Walls Lab is a unique competition that provides young researchers and entrepreneurs a platform to present their research project business plan or social initiative. The challenge is to present this in just 3 minutes! 16 finalists from across the country selected through a rigorous process by field experts shared their top-notch research and entrepreneurial ideas on themes as varied as but not limited to health problems and diagnosis, energy conservation, effective processing and production etc.
