Udupi: Under the leadership of Heddari Jagrathi Samithi, a massive protest was held at Sasthan against the collection of toll from local KA 20 registered vehicles here on Friday, December 7.
The protest was supported by more than 125 organisations. Store owners around Sasthan also voluntarily closed their businesses in support of the protest.
As a precautionary measure, the district administration deployed a large number of police personnel near the Sasthan Toll Plaza to prevent any untoward incident during the protest. The protesters were restrained from waylaying any vehicle plying along the road.
One additional SP, two DySPs, six circle inspectors, 12 police sub-inspectors, 21 assistant sub-inspectors, 38 reserve SCPC, 71 head constables, 28 women police constables, eight police vans, three companies of KSRP, four companies of BAR, ambulances and fire service personnel were on standby.
Sri Esha Vittaladasa Swamiji of Kemaru Matt, Sri Narasimha Swamiji of Balekudru Matt, Rev. Fr. John Walter D’Souza of St. Anthony’s Church, Sasthan, Janab Irfan Alam of Sasthan Masjid, Kota Srinivas Poojary, MLC and opposition leader at legislative council, Bengaluru, Raghupathy Bhat, Udupi MLA, Haladi Srinivas Shetty, MLA of Kundapur, Lalaji Mendon, MLA of Kaup, Dinakar Babu, Zilla Panchayat President, officials of various organisations and locals at large participated in the protest.
