Udupi: “There are copious opportunities ahead for students who excel in sports", said Minister for Fisheries and Sports and Youth Empowerment Pramod Madhwaraj.
He was addressing a gathering after the inauguration of Msgr. D J Dennis D’Souza Memorial Pavilion of Milagres College, Kallianpur here on January 5. He asked the students to make use of the benefits provided as the state government is planning to introduce adoption for more than 1000 top sportsmen and women, with the intention to give support under the Sanatha Krida Purashkar Yojana. He said that the government’s intention was to develop the sports activities in the state.
On this occasion, Ramous D’Souza, an entrepreneur from Mumbai, inaugurated the renovated gymnasium, for which he had donated Rs 2 Lakh. Bishop of Udupi Diocese Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo blessed the newly inaugurated pavilion.
Abhin Devadiga, Rohan Kotian and Mohammed Shaad of the Milagres Institutions were felicitated for their outstanding achievements in sports at the state and national levels.
Savitha Kumari Hande, Principal, Milagres PU College; Rev. Fr. (Dr.) Prakash Anil Castelino, Campus Minister; Dr. Nery Cornelio and Dr. Gerald Pinto, former principals of the college; Udaya Kumar Shetty, President of the PTA and Salvadore Noronha, President of the Alumni Association, were the chief guests on the occasion.
Rev. Fr. Stany B Lobo, Correspondent of the Milagres Group of Institutions welcomed the gathering. Prof. Joseph Peter Fernandes and Nisha Crasta compered the programme.
The colourful march past of the students enlivened the annual sports meet. Milagres Sister Institutions heads, alumni association members and parents were also present on the occasion.
