Udupi: “More than Rs 1800 Crore worth of developmental works have been undertaken in the last four and half years during Pramod Madhwaraj’s tenure”, said Janardhan Thonse, President of Udupi District Congress Committee.

Addressing media personnel during a press meet at the Udupi Press Club on November 14, he said Madhwaraj had initiated a lot of developmental works in the Udupi Legislative constituency and in a corruption-free, honest and transparent manner with active administration. He also said that this was possible only due to Madhwaraj’s concern for the poor.

He said it was unfortunate that despite all the hard work and developments brought about by Madhwaraj, the BJP leaders continued to level baseless allegations against him out of jealousy adding that this was something that the people of Udupi would not tolerate.

“As a legislator, Pramod Madwaraj conducted meetings in 31 villages of Udupi panchayat and also all 35 wards of Udupi Municipal Council with the intention of responding to the problems of the people to find suitable solutions”, he said.

He also stated that Madhwaraj was working relentlessly towards his vision of making Udupi a modern constituency by 2025, as he had promised during the elections adding that many of his promises had been fulfilled.

“Pramod Madhwaraj has a dream that by 2025, Udupi will become a role model for the rest of India and this is what makes the people happy”, Thonse said.

Thonse alleged that Raghupathy Bhat had been accusing Madhwaraj of stopping his charity work and the distribution of cement after the election. “Pramod still does charity within the limitations”, he said adding that developmental works were going on without any political agenda.

He stated that a 200 bed air-conditioned multi-speciality hospital was to be inaugurated soon.

Thonse further claimed that the Congress party had always opposed Raghupaty Bhat and his behaviour and went on to say that the latter had a slew of scandals and scams credited to his name.

B Narasimha Murthy, Secretary, District Congress Committee; Sathish Amin, President, Udupi Block Committee; Nithyananda Shetty, President, Brahmavar Block Congress Committee; Janardhan Bhandarkar, nominated CMC Councillor and Bhaskar Rao Kidiyoor were present during the press meet.
