Udupi: "The state’s new Sports Integrity will be introduced before the end of December," said Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister for Sports, Fisheries and Youth Empowerment and district in-charge minister, in his inaugural address during the State level Sports meet at S.M.S. grounds on Saturday, November 11.
The event was organized by the PU Education Department Bengaluru, PU Education Department Udupi district and SMS PU College, Brahamvar.
He said that there were already five zones, comprising 30 districts of the state, where meetings have been conducted and suggestions have been considered in order to introduce state-level sports integrity. "The new sports integrity would give more scope for students in the sports field and that the state government has reserved employment for top achievers in the sports field," he said.
In relation to attendance shortage in institutions due to students participating in sports events, he said that the government is currently having a discussion to provide grace marks as well as school attendance to them as the government wants to support the sporting endeavours of the students.
Madhwaraj announced that the state government has alloted Rs 285 crore for the purpose of supporting sports persons and starting new sports related projects. "The state government will adopt 1000 talented sportsmen and 750 sportsmen have already submitted their applications. The remaining 250 positions will be filled at the earliest," he said adding that necessary training, coaching and other facilities would be given for the selected sportsmen.
He informed that the interested sportsmen could apply online further adding that Rs 10 crore has been reserved for cover the sports persons' expenditure. He also said that Rs 8 lac has been sanctioned for the present state level sports meet here in SMS ground, Brahmavar.
Around 2500 PU sports students, from 30 states, participated in the tournament. Pramod Madhawaraj conducted the oathtaking ceremony during the colourful march past. A beautiful tableau was also held during the march past. Pramod Madhwaraj inaugurated the state level sports meet by releasing colourful balloons into the sky.
Sheela K Shetty hoisted the sportsmeet flag during the occasion and the St Mother Theresa Brass Band from Honnavar, added to the beauty of the inaugural programme.
M. G. Vishwanath retd PD of Shivamogga, N. S. Herimat retd PD of Shivamogga and Vasanth Shetty, PD of Viveka Kota were felicitated during the occasion and sports kits were distributed by Pramod Madhwaraj.
Udupi Taluk Panchayat President Nalini Pradeep Rao, Zilla Panchayat member Myrmadi Sudhakar Shetty, Varamballi Grama Panchayat President Naveen Chandra Nayak, Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis, Superintendent of Police Dr. Sanjeev M Patil, Youth and Sports Department Assistant Director Dr. Roshan Kumar Shetty, State PU Education Department Assistant Director Gayathri Devi, O. S. C. Educational Institutions Correspondent Rev Fr. C A Isaac, International Sportsman Purander and others were among those present on the dais.
Udupi District PU Education Department Deputy Director Vijayalaxmi Nayak welcomed the gathering. Ivan Donath Suvaries, Principal of SMS PU College proposed the vote of thanks and Sathis Chitrapady and A. Alva compered the programme.
