Udupi: Installing a statue of Madhwacharya at Malpe Beach and a statue of Parasurama at St Mary’s island will possibly help us develop tourism in Udupi District, said MLA Raghupathy Bhat on Thursday, September 27.
The MLA was speaking after inaugurating the Paryatana Parva and World Tourism Day at Malpe Beach, which being held between September 27 and 30, and is organised by the Udupi District administration, Tourism Department, Malpe Beach Development Committee, Youth Empowerment and Sports Department, Nehru Youth Centre, Karavali Tourism Association, Nirmithi Kendra and Athithi Kausalya Kendra, Manipal.
“There are beautiful beaches in the Udupi district like Padubidri beach, Byndoor beach, Kaup beach, Hoode, Delta beach, but the tourists do not know about them. There should be more publicity about our heritage and culture in order to increase tourism in the district. Increase in tourism will lead to an increase in employment for the youth,” he said in his presidential address.
Earlier, Dinakar Babu inaugurated World Tourism Day by lighting the traditional lamp. ‘The best of Udupi in 48 hours’ mini book outlet was also released on the occasion by Yashpal Suvarna of the Fishermen Trading Federation.
Roshan Kumar Shetty welcomed the gathering. District Tourism Department Assistant Director Anita presented the keynote address. Dr. Vijendra compered the programme.
District Police Superintendent Laxman Nimbargi, President of Udupi Taluk Panchayat Nalini Pradeep Rao, a local member of CMC Laxmi Manju Kola, assistant district commissioner Bhoobalan, Arun Kumar of Nirmithi Kendra, Assistant Director of Kannada and Cultural Department Chandrashekar, Para Volleyball Hon. President Manohar Shetty and others were present.
