Udupi: Madhu Bangarappa is the most eligible candidate in the Shivamogga Lok Sabha by-elections to be held on Saturday and he will win, said Janata Dal (Secular) leader and MLC Bhoje Gowda on Thursday, November 1.

Addressing a press meet at the Udupi Press Club, Gowda said that the JD(S) and the Congress will work together for Bangarappa’s victory. “Although Madhu Bangarappa lost in the assembly elections, he will be victorious in this one. He is the state president of the JD(S) youth unit,” he said.

He also warned the BJP senior leaders to be careful when they speak about the JD(S) leaders. This was in response to Janardhan Reddy’s objectionable statement about Siddaramaiah just a few days ago. “These irresponsible statements show the exact colour of the BJP. Janardhan Reddy came from the underworld mafia. He does not deserve to be in a position of power,” Gowda said.

Speaking on the sand issues that have been plaguing the Udupi district, he said that the coastal MPs Nalin Kumar Kateel and Shobha Karandlaje should speak to the central government about the same. “It is the problem of the union government. Let them hold a meeting with the Central leaders and sort out the crisis. Till then, the state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, will try to solve the issue at the earliest,” he said.

He then accused the BJP of trying to politicise the sand issue to their benefit. “Kota Srinivas Poojary should mind his statements on the issue. They should not mislead the common people during the elections,” he advised.

JD(S) District President Yogish Shetty, leaders Vasudev Rao, Pradeep Bailoor, Jayakumar Parkala, Pradeep and others were present during the press meet.
