Udupi: MP Shobha Karandlaje, on Saturday, December 1, said that although there is no provision in the law for people to travel in the country without paying the toll, she would try and speak to Union Minister Nithin Gadkari again regarding the same. She was speaking in reference to the recent agitation against the installation of a toll gate in the district.
Speaking to reporters in Kota, MP Shobha said that the development of infrastructure for the roads, protecting the toll plaza, maintaining the roads comes under the purview of the state PWD department and that the Centre is only responsible for the work of the National Highways.
She then accused PWD minister H D Revanna of failing to address the problems faced by those protesting against the toll in the district. “The state government does not cooperate with us. I will discuss the matter of the toll with the Deputy Commissioner and will actively participate in the next protest. I will also try to convince the central government,” she said.
