Kundapur : A woman hailing from Suratkal who ran the canteen of the Moodlakatte Institute of Technology here tried to end her life by consuming sleeping pills by locking herself up inside the bathroom, after the management reportedly failed to clear her dues.
The woman named Janaki was finally rescued by Kundapur ASI Sudha Prabhu and other police personnel and rushed to the hospital. It is learnt, the Institute used to pay Rs 4.6 lakh to Janaki every month to run the canteen which supplied food to the nearly 300 students and faculty members. It is learnt, the college had paid only half the amount to Janaki in June and failed to clear the dues despite her persistent pleas. Finally,when the management told her that her contract will be cancelled, Janaki was distraught and on Friday July 11 she made another appeal to clear her dues. But when her appeal went unheeded, she decided to end her life.
It has been gathered that she had purchased groceries worth Rs 6 lakh on credit and the shopkeepers had filed complaint against her for not paying the money.
Kundapur police are investigating the case.
