KPCC appoints four General Secretaries from Udupi District

Udupi : In the recent reshuffle of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, four senior Congress members from Udupi have been appointed to key post of general secretaries of the KPCC. They are U. R. Sabhapathy, Gopal Bhandary, M A. Gafoor and Veronica Cornelio.

The Senior Congress leader U. R. Sabhapathy was elected member of legislative assembly from Udupi assembly constituency on Karnataka Congress Party ticket in 1994. After the KCP merger with Indian Congress Party, he was once again re-elected from Udupi assembly constituency in 1999. He then in 2012, joined Janata Dal Secular. Later he once again re-joined Congress Party.

H. Gopala Bhanadary first became the member of legislative assembly from Karkala legislative assembly in 1999. He contested in 2004, but lost the election. Once again he emerged victorious in 2008 from Karkala Legislative assembly. He has been a very active member in Congress Party.

M.A. Gafoor has served in the Udupi District Congress Committee for over three decades. He was president of the Udupi Congress Committee for 12 years and member of Zilla panchayat for three terms. He had served as secretary of District Youth Congress and National Youth Congress units. Presently he is chief of Karnataka Minorities Development Corporation.

Veronica Cornelio who hails from Kemmannu is actively involved in the field of social service for the past 20 years. She has served as one of the first Presidents of Udupi Taluk panchayat and has been an elected Taluk Panchayat for past two decades from Uppoor and Padu Tonse electoral areas. She is presently the President of district Mahila Congress wing. Social worker, politician, Rajotsava Awardee she served as Chairperson of Karnataka Soaps and Detergent Limited. She is also the coordinator and has played key role in introducing the Manipal Health Cards. She is known for her simplicity, politeness and soft-spoken nature. Her selfless contribution to the society has widely been acknowledged by various organizations and institutions.
