Udupi: Karnataka’s second scuba diving facility was inaugurated at Kaup beach by Kaup MLA, former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake at an event organised on Sunday, November 12. This is the second scuba diving facility in Karnataka after Karwar.
By opting to go for this adventure sport, tourists will be able to get a first hand feel of the marine bio-diversity and beauty of the deep sea.
Addressing the gathering after the inaugural, Vinay Kumar Sorake said that several programmes are being undertaken in order to promote Kaup beach as a tourist spot, of which scuba diving is a prime attraction. An international airport will be planned in the district so as to further attract foreign tourists.
The diving spot, located nearly 8 kilometer away from the coast was selected after a detailed survey was conducted by the experts.
Rich coral reefs, attractive and rare species of fishes and variety of aquatic animals will be a treat for the divers. West Coast Adventures has signed an agreement with Udupi district administration to provide scuba facility to the tourists for the period of three years.
Tourists opting to experience scuba diving should remit a fee of Rs 3500. Those above age of 10 can opt for scuba diving and knowledge of swimming is not a requisite to experience diving.
Kaup Town Council President Saumya, District Panchayat CEO Shivanand Kapasi, Chief official Rayappa, Manohar Shetty of ACT, Yathish Baikampady and others were present.
Tourism Assistant Director Anita welcomed the gathering and delivered vote of thanks.
