Udupi: A perturbing incident of a person who has been imprisoned in Kuwait, reportedly for a crime which he has not committed has come to light.
Shankar Poojary, a native of Basroor of Kundapur taluk left to Kuwait about four years ago in search of greener pastures. Life was all fine, till he came to India on ten-day leave and returned to Kuwait about three months ago.
Jyothi Poojari, wife of Shankar says that on his way back to Kuwait, he was asked by one of his colleagues named Sadiq to carry a parcel of some medication for his aunt.
Jyothi recalls that on Sadiq’s request, Shankar had collected the parcel from Mubarak, who works as a driver at Udupi DC’s office. Mubarak was accompanied by Sadiq’s wife as well. They had told Shankar that the parcel was to be given to Tasleem Fathima, who was Sadiq’s aunt.
Shankar obliged, unaware of the fact that the parcel was going to land him in the dark prisons of Kuwait.
The parcel handed over to Shankar had medicines in it and on being screened at the Kuwait airport, the authorities detained him as he had no prescriptions for the medicines.
However, the Poojary family’s troubles doubled when Sadiq denied having any connection with Shankar and the parcel.
Left all alone to fight for justice, Jyothi has made all possible attempts to make sure that Shankar walks out free. She has written to Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and others, but there has been no reply. She has also appealed to many Kannadigas settled in Kuwait to help her out, but nothing has yielded any results so far.
While Jyothi feels that Tasleem Fathima could help her husband, she also knows that finding Tasleem Fathima is almost like finding a needle in a haystack. She awaits a miracle to happen.
