IDA and MACT conducts campaign cum action for stray dogs

Udupi: Indian Dental Association, Udupi branch with Madhwaraj Animal Care Trust (MACT) conducted a unique and meaningful program for the welfare of stray dogs on Sunday, May 5, at Malpe beach.

Awareness, understanding and a change of heart was the purpose of the campaign cum action for stray dogs, ‘Namma Swantha Namma Hemme’, other than various other initiatives and programs.

A free ‘Adoption Camp for Rescued Puppies’ was conducted for 14 loving, beautiful, dewormed and fully vaccinated puppies that had been fostered at their shelter ‘Precious Paws’, MACT Malpe, with neutering of the dogs done free of cost.

Twelve families came forward to provide these puppies a family and a safe home. With this the number of adoptions facilitated by MACT is 221 in the last 10 months.

‘Hakku’ a street play was also performed which was received extremely well by the public. Many of the audience said that it brought tears to their eyes and also a new understanding of the struggle of stray dogs from birth to death.

It was a touching and meaningful play dedicated to the lives of our fellow beings on the street, directed by Shri Suresh Navur and enacted by volunteers of Angels for Strays group, students of Yakshagana Kendra, Udupi and other animal lovers. The acting skills of Ramanjee of ‘Rangabhoomi’ as the mother dog was praised by all .

Dr Manoj Maxim, President of IDA welcomed the audience and urged on making our society free of conflict with the stray dogs by taking responsibility of making the lives of these animals happier and healthier and strive to co-exist peacefully and lovingly with them.

Babita Madhwaraj, founder trustee, MACT Malpe said the campaign cum action for stray dogs ‘Namma Swantha Namma Hemme’ will see Udupi as the first city in the country to have an all inclusive community and will be the model city for India to follow. She also said that this is only possible in Udupi as we have a huge number of compassionate and kind people who are very empathetic and definitely ready to support the cause of our stray animals and be their voice and defenders.

The public appreciated the initiative taken and said that more such projects should come up.
