tollUdupi: A high level meeting which was held at Vidhan Soudha in Bengaluru to discuss ways of breaking an impasse over the collection of toll charges at the plazas set up in Sasthan and Hejamady failed as there was no consensus could be achieved. The meeting was held because of the strong opposition from the people and their representatives against toll collection at the gates.

The Rashtriya Heddari Horata Samiti members who were present in the meeting informed the media that Udupi District In-charge Minister Dr. Jayamala had expressed strong reservations regarding the idea of Navayuga Company to collect tolls even before completing the construction of the national highway.

Udupi MLA K Raghupati Bhat and Leader of the Opposition in the Council, Kota Srinivas Poojary, who were present at the meeting asserted with the Navayuga Company that they were in support of the agitators.

They also stated that they would be backing them against the toll charges and that even police presence would not deter them. They warned that if the company continued with the toll collection, they would not allow any vehicle to pass through.

Since it was obvious that no conclusion was being reached, the legislators and agitators walked out from the meeting assuring that they would do all that it takes to stop the toll collection.
