Udupi: The possibility of a low-pressure area building up above the Arabian sea could turn into a cyclonic storm, predicted the meteorological department.
The meteorological department further informed that the coastal areas of Karnataka are more likely to witness heavy rain from October 5 to 10 and have also instructed the fishermen who are in the sea to rush back to the shore as a sudden reduction in the air pressure may lead to the turbulent sea.
Not only the coastal Karnataka areas but areas falling in Tamil Nadu and Kerala too will witness heavy rainfall said, Director of the department, C S Patil.
Sheer fall in air pressure due to the low-pressure areas created near Laksha Dweep islands will worsen the situation and form into cyclone, informed the department.
Fishermen are already warned not to go fishing from October 6 to 8 and fishermen who are already in the sea have been asked to come back at the earliest, said sources.
These announcements are made with the use of loudspeakers at Malpe port area so that the fishermen who had gone to the sea on Wednesday can come back soon, informed President of Malpe Fishermen’s Association, Satish Kunder. He further added that over 500 boats of Malpe area are currently in the sea.
Four to five degree Celsius temperature may increase because of this situation, said sources.
