Kundapur: Normal life in Kundapur taluk is disrupted owing to heavy rainfall since the past few days. If lakes and rivulets are overflowing, the clogged drains have added to the problems.
To top it all the four-laning works on National Highway 66 has further aggravated the situation. On the other hand, the non-commencement of NH works on the Kundapur-Honnavar stretch has left drains clogged, and rain water flowing on the road, presenting a desolate picture.
Floods have affected Neramballi, Satwadi in Koni village, Holekattu area, Koravadi of Kumbhashi and Salbuda in Navunda. In Sowkur, flood waters have entered a house forcing the occupants to take shelter in a nearby temple.
Hattikudru has turned into a virtual island owing to the opening of the sluice gates of Varahi dam. Villagers are seen abandoning their homes in fear.
Haladi worst hit : On the other hand the rupturing of the Varahi canal in Halady and the collapsing embankment has aggravated problem, with soil landing on the Halady-Goliangady road making it unmotorable. A local businessman Bhagavandas said the complaint to the authorities has yielded no result. Locals are agitated over the neglect of the Varahi officials.
Educational institutions of the taluk have remained closed owing to the incessant rains and floods.
