Udupi: The door-to-door pension scheme, an initiative by the state government has begun in the ‘temple city’. For this, around 1, 938 beneficiaries have been identified.

State revenue minister R Ashok said that as a pilot programme the scheme will be initiated in Udupi at first and after an assessment of the programme, the government will implement it in other districts.

According to the sources, the village accountant will identify the beneficiaries at first and later submit the report to the state revenue department. Once the revenue department recognizes the eligible beneficiaries, it will file a suo moto application and then begin providing the pensions door-to-door.

As per the reports, the scheme has been initiated to eradicate the middlemen menace, which according to the government is illegally making money from the pension funds which is supposed to reach the beneficiaries.

The pensions for the widow, old age, and specially-abled will be delivered at the doorsteps.
