Gala ride on new bike turns fatal, biker charred to death in road mishap

Udupi: A biker, who had bought his dream bike only two days ago was charred to death after his bike collide head-on with a car on NH-66 at Maravanthe in Kundapura. The intensity of the collision was such that the bike caught fire in seconds charring the rider to death on the spot.

The deceased is Puneeth Poojary, resident of Taggarse in Byndoor. He is the nephew of Zilla Panchayat member Shankar Poojary. Puneeth’s pillion Akash is battling for life, it is gathered.

It is said that Kundapura resident Nagabhushan was plying in his car from Byndoor to Kundapura when his car collided with Puneeth’s car.

While the bike was gutted killing Puneeth, the car too has been reduced to mere mangled remains. Efforts by the locals to extinguish the fire met failure and the mishap had left the road blocked for several hours.

Gangolly police have registered a case.
