Udupi: The four police personnel who had abetted illegal cattle trafficking in Sasthan under Kota Police Station limits, have been suspended, said Nisha James, District Superintendent of Police.

Speaking to media persons on Thursday, July 18, Nisha James said, “Every department has black sheep and efficient officers but a majority of the police personnel are working honestly day and night at the checkposts and highways. We should recognise the efforts of our efficient police personnel,” she said.

She disclosed that six policemen were involved in this case of illegal cattle trafficking and regretted the involvement of her own policemen in crime. SP said that so far two policemen including one from the Manki Police Station of Uttara Kannada district and another from Udupi district had been arrested. Still, four accused are absconding and search is on to arrest them.

“The strength of the policemen in the district, is above 1000. If any one is involved in any kind of crime, it will bring a black mark on the entire department. I urge the members of the public to inform the nearest police station if you find cops involved in crime”, she said.
