Former Udupi CMC Commissioner suspended on charges of disproportionate assets

Udupi: Senior lecturer at Government teachers training institute at Mangaluru and former commissioner of Udupi City Municipal council D. Manjunathaiah has been suspended for his disproportionate assets.

Deputy Secretary of the Department of Education has issued an order for immediate implementation of the departmental inquiry against Manjunathaiah and suspended him from service until further orders.

D Manjunathaih has been kept under suspension until the inquiry is completed as per a suspension order dated February 23, 2019 under the Karnataka Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) rules 1957.

A raid was conducted against D. Manjunathaiah by Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), as there were several complaints against him that he had accumulated wealth illegally and on 27th December 2018 a complaint was filed in Udupi district police station. The ACB team had raided the houses and property in Udupi on 28th December 2018 and registered a case against him. After interrogation, the ACB found the accused to possess more assets than his source of income. Then, ACB had submitted the documents of the investigation to the government seeking a proper departmental disciplinary action against former Udupi City Municipal Commissioner D Manjunathaiah.

The ACB had found that as per the documents available, he has wealth more than the income from all sources and he has earned 89.40% assets more than his income.
