Former MLA Gopal Bhandary dies while travelling in B’luru-M’luru bus

Karkala: Former MLA of Karkala Gopal Bhandary passed away, merely three days before his 67th birthday, on Thursday, July 4. He was travelling in a multi-axle bus from Bengaluru to Mangaluru on Thursday when he suffered a massive cardiac attack.

It is said that the bus driver found the MLA seated on his seat even after the bus arrived at the KSRTC Bejai station in Mangaluru around 10.15 PM. When the former MLA did not respond to the driver waking him up, he was rushed to district Wenlock hospital in Mangaluru, where he was declared brought dead.

Bhandary travelled alone from Bengaluru in the 2 PM bus from Bengaluru and had alighted the bus for a coffee break.

Bhandary, who was born on July 7, 1952 represented Karkala constituency in the Assembly for two terms.
