Udupi: “Policemen work hard to remain fit but fitness is not the only factor for better health”, said Dr. Padmaraja Hegde, Dean and Professor, Urology Department, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal.
He was addressing a gathering at the Udupi District Home Guards Western Zone level Tournament 2017 at the Police Grounds here on December 18. He said that it was necessary for policemen to be fit but, they should also go for routine health checks in order to stay healthy.
Dr. K Prashanth Shetty presided over the inaugural ceremony of the Home Guards tournament and welcomed the gathering.
Prakashchandra Shetty, Chiarman of G M Vidyaniketan Public School, Brahmavar and Dr. B Yogish Shetty, former president of Medical Practitioners Association also spoke on the occasion.
At the tournament, there will be events like 100 meters running race, 200 meters running race, relay race, 800 meter running race, high jump, long jump, kabbadi, volley ball, and others for men and 100 meters running race, 400 meters relay race, first aid competition, fire fighting competition and other events for women.
The winners of the tournament will move on to the state level tournament to be held in Bengaluru. Around 140 candidates from Chikkamagaluru, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district have participated from the western zone.
The valedictory ceremony and prize distribution will be held on December 19.
